Overview

To the north-east of Moutoulla (2 – 3 Km) was the Late Byzantine - Medieval settlement of Marathos. Marathos was chosen for their summer residence by Rigas and the lords of the place. Rigaina, with the noblewomen and the women of her entourage, went to a place of extraordinary beauty, with sulphurous waters, in the river of Marathasa just outside of Moutoulla, where they bathed. There is still a dent in the hard rock in the area, where Rigaina sat when she was taking her bath, known to this day as "Maerissin". All the residents of the area know the tradition of the "Baths of Rigaina" in Moutoullas.
